USA Today have published some shocking results: after conducting a national survey among 18 to 31-year-olds, it reveals that 76% of young Americans say that cohabitation before marriage is absolutely fine.
What is a worrying concept is whether this notion of cultural trend will be carried down to younger generations, children and grandchildren for example. Not only that but the media plays a huge part in brainwashing viewers, shining light on the topic as okay and as a ‘norm’ in society when it isn’t in the eyes of the Lord.
Ephesians 5:5 says: For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
Many women who claim themselves to be a Christian now live together before marriage (approx 65 percent of them).
So what can we do about this? The media and TV definitely needs to send out the right messages to viewers, but living in such a multicultural world full of different views and opinions, making this happen can seem almost impossible.
Therefore, it may be down to parental upbringing and the teaching that is done at home. As they say, it all starts from within. So it’s important to teach the right messages and encourage the moralistic thing to do in the eyes of our Lord to our children; as much as possible.
And this is what USA Today thinks of the issue: “Here’s the deal: couples who are shacking up, living under one roof as a “pretend” married couple, are living beneath the revealed will of God for their lives. Ignoring this will bring consequences, if not immediately, then eventually.”
