Recent events in the Arab World and across the world have affected many of us. As believers, our hearts should break for what breaks Jesus’ heart, and we mourn with those who mourn. But as we do, keeping our eyes on Jesus by praying and staying in God’s Word, we can find hope for the future.

Why has the world gone silent about the atrocity and inhuman behaviour against the people in North Korea by their leaders? We should be acting as a world community in a way that is working against the wicked and cruel leaders in North Korea. However, it seems that the majority of society are more concerned with President Donald Trump for example, and his behaviour, and we are forgetting about others around the world who are left in the dark.

A young girl from North Korea who starred on a non-profit organisation based in London, One Young World, has spoken out about the harsh reality of life in North Korea. She says that the people there are not free to sing or say or do what they like. They are the only country in the world that have executed people for making international calls.

“I never saw any love stories between man and woman. No books, no movies, no press on TV.

“I was born in 1993 and I was abducted at birth even before I knew the words freedom or human rights.

“When I was four years old, I was warned by my mother not to even whisper. The birds and mice couldn’t hear me. I admit it: I thought the North Korean dictator could read my mind.”

This is just a small glimpse of what the people of North Korea are going through. We forget about the countries that don’t receive any media attention because they’re not being highlighted. But shouldn’t we start thinking differently? Shouldn’t we start remembering that it’s important to be open-minded and to offer the support and voice to those that have no voice? We cannot turn a blind eye to matters that are being hidden from us.

“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
—Isaiah 40:31

Where is the UN? The world would rather attack Saddam Hussein, President Gaddaffi and other extremists, blame them as our worst enemies on our earth, whilst the people who have lived and originate from North Korea are forgotten about, left alone with little to no voice.

Let’s change this. Together.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
—Jeremiah 29:11
